The Tabernacle

a topical study for young people

The account of Creation is covered by two chapters in the Bible, but the Tabernacle (its construction, contents, and usage) is detailed in at least fifty chapters. God must have found this VERY important. A study of the Old Testament Tabernacle helps us to understand the plan of salvation, Christ, and the church.

TTHE OUTER CURTAINS & THE GATE
(Lesson 2)

When people looked toward the Tabernacle, the first thing they saw was the curtains. How important were the curtains? What do they represent for God's people today? Study this lesson to learn more.

THE BRAZEN ALTAR
(Lesson 3)

The Altar of Brass was the first thing people saw when entering the courtyard. To come into God's presence (the Holy of Holies) requires first dealing with SIN. This lesson teaches what God thinks about sin.

THE BRAZEN LAVER
(Lesson 4)

Before entering the Tabernacle Proper, a cleansing had to take place (washing at the laver). This lesson teaches that salvation includes forgiveness of past sins AND a cleansing of what caused the sins.

THE TABERNACLE COVERINGS
(Lesson 5)

The Tabernacle had four coverings to protect what was inside. What were they? What do they represent? What is so valuable today that needs to be protected? This lesson answers these questions.

THE GOLDEN CANDLESTICK
(Lesson 6)

Inside the first room of the Tabernacle, light was shining from the candlestick (lampstand). Salvation makes us "as a lamp that burneth" (Isaiah 62:1). A lost, dark world needs us to let our lights shine!

THE TABLE OF SHOWBREAD

In Bible times, "breaking bread" was a time to share something in common (fellowship). Through the Tabernacle, God is teaching us that fellowship with Him has been restored through Jesus Christ.

THE ALTAR OF INCENSE
(Lesson 8)

The recipe for incense included stacte, onycha, galbanum, and pure frankincense. Each ingredient teaches something about the ingredients needed for effective prayers.

THE VEIL
(Lesson 9)

In John 14:6, Jesus said He is "the way, the truth, and the life." The Tabernacle had three entrances: the Gate (the way), the Door (the truth), and the Veil (the life). This lesson teaches how through the Veil (Christ), we can now have spiritual life.

THE HOLY OF HOLIES
(Lesson 10)

The second room held only one piece of furniture (the Ark of the Covenant). This lesson teaches the purpose of an ark (to protect and preserve), what a covenant is, and the importance of the mercy seat (which represents Christ).

The Ark held the Tables of Testimony, the Pot of Manna, and Aaron's rod that budded. This lesson explains the meaning of each of Israel's "chief treasures."

When everything was built according to the pattern, the "glory of the LORD" moved in. This lesson teaches the importance of building our lives according to the Word. Then, God's presence will be in our midst.
